What is Embryo Transfer?
Embryo Transfer (ET) is crucial in In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). It involves creating a viable embryo by fertilizing an egg with sperm in a laboratory. This embryo is then carefully transferred into a woman’s uterus. The goal is for the embryo to implant in the uterine lining and result in a successful pregnancy.

How Does Embryo Transfer Work?
Embryo Transfer is a relatively simple and minimally invasive procedure. Here’s an overview of the steps involved:
Ovarian Stimulation and Egg Retrieval: The first step in the IVF process is stimulating the ovaries to produce multiple eggs. These eggs are then retrieved through a minor surgical procedure.
Fertilization: The eggs are fertilized in the laboratory using either traditional insemination or ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection).
Embryo Culturing: The fertilized eggs are cultured for a few days, typically 3 to 5, to allow the embryos to grow and develop. The embryologist selects the best quality embryos for transfer.
Embryo Transfer: The selected embryo(s) are transferred into the woman’s uterus. This is done using a thin catheter inserted through the cervix under ultrasound guidance. The procedure is usually painless and doesn’t require anesthesia.
Post-Transfer Monitoring: After the embryo transfer, patients are monitored with blood tests and ultrasounds to confirm implantation and early pregnancy.
