When Do You Need ICSI?

Step 3: Sperm Collection & Selection

  • The best-quality sperm is selected under a microscope for injection.

Step 4: Sperm Injection (ICSI Procedure)

  • A single, healthy sperm is injected directly into each mature egg using a specialized microscope and microneedle.

Step 5: Fertilization & Embryo Development

  • The injected eggs are monitored in the lab for fertilization.
  • The fertilized eggs (embryos) grow for a few days before selection.

Step 6: Embryo Transfer

  • A healthy embryo is chosen and placed into the woman’s uterus using a thin, painless catheter.
  • Extra embryos can be frozen for future use.

Step 7: Pregnancy Test

  • About 10–14 days after the embryo transfer, a blood test is done to check for pregnancy.
